Eschenstraße 55 | 31224 Peine | Germany

The Federal Company for Final Waste Disposal (BGE) is responsible on behalf of the federal government for the permanent storage of radioactive waste deep underground.

In accordance with the provisions of the Site Selection Act, the BGE is searching for a site in Germany that offers the best possible safety for one million years for highly radioactive waste. It is also responsible for the final disposal of low- and medium-level radioactive waste. The BGE is tasked with immediately shutting down the Asse II mine in the district of Wolfenbüttel, constructing the Konrad final repository in Salzgitter, and preparing for the decommissioning of the Morsleben final repository in Saxony-Anhalt and the closure of the Gorleben mine.

In addition, the BGE participates in national and international cooperation and research projects. This cooperation, including outside Germany, helps the BGE to closely follow the latest scientific and technical developments.
